Can you buy antibiotics (Amoxicillin) in Tijuana, Mexico without a prescription? Currently in a coverage gap with health insurance. Have a sinus infection that comes nearly every year from mold.
By the time I hit the Doc's office and get a prescription we'll be out $250..
We are close to Tijuana and if we can buy the same thing there at a "real" pharmacy, I suspect that I can be out only $100 after all is said and done.
Thanks for replies from those that have done this.
I would appreciate the recommendation of a pharmacy in Tijuana if you have experience with one.
To Tabru - Why not put your computer keyboard to better use instead of making an ass out of yourself?
No one cares that you have "good insurance"
What an ass you are!
To the "Costco" poster.... did you even READ my question before you answered?
McKeag replied: "Yes, but they will be confiscated when you try to cross back into the USA."
mattopai replied: "Yes, it is available. But the thing is finding the best place to buy it. A problem with buying it in Mexico is that it may be fake or cut below the strength you need or think you are buying. As for a pharmacy I recommend that you find the newest and most modern looking one. They will probably tend to be honest in what they sell you."
pep replied: "I have lived in Mexico 3 years now....and I have never had a problem with pharmacies. For instance, I was paying $40 in the US for birth control, and when I ran out here, I went in to the pharmacy, looked up my pills, and bought some without a prescription. I now pay $8 a box! Also, (and I DO NOT promote this) you can self-prescribe here. If you are feeling sick, and you KNOW what it is.....you can ask for just about anything in a pharmacy. I have purchased Amoxicillin MANY times here....most doctors automatically prescribe this for any infection. A box is VERY inexpensive.....I would stock up on a few. The most popular chain here is Farmacia Guadalajara (they are in EVERY city in MX and very reliable). They carry the largest supply of meds plus any imported health care items. Good luck!"
Zuly replied: "yeah you can....my parents buy medicine there all the time without a prescription.....and it's alot cheaper too."
carinyosa99 replied: "You definitely can and I have never heard of it actually being confiscated (although I know the US can do it).
We bought Tetracycline when we were in Nogales (border town in Arizona) and had no problems.
I lived in Mexico City for a little while and got very sick. My boyfriend took me to a Sanborns (it's a department store type place that also has a pharmacy section) and talked to the pharmacist about my symptoms. They know more than doctors as to what is the best medication. The point though is to speak to an actual pharmacist, and not just a person who works there."
Tabru replied: "Sorry man, Just bought a bottle for $16 875mg...Good insurance definitely helps!"
JoLynn11 replied: "yes, but they not be as good as the ones in the states
the pharmacies seem to be everywhere"
pastrbuzz replied: "Yes you can- I live in Baja and sometimes buy meds at a "Roma" pharmacy- but you can basically tell a good one by the way it looks- if they have put money inot making it clean and professional looking- then it's very likely an above board place.
You can take them back into the US if you have a prescription- and there is no reason you can't go down to Playas de Rosarito and go to the "Cruz Roja" (Red Cross) just off the main street (ask anyone where it is for directions- or drive south until you see a red cross sign) and see a Dr. for $7.00. They have quite a few English speaking Dr.'s and they will give you a prescription that you keep- goto a pharmacy- get your pills, have some tacos- go to the beach, catch a circus for $1.00 and then go home happy and healthy!
You may be able to do all of this closer to the border- ask when you cross where the closest Cruz Roja is!!"
nithya s replied: "hi check this link its good
."
Salvatrucho replied: "yes you can but beware of sting operations. There are a lot of sting operations in place by Tijuana police and DO NOT let them catch you with it because last time they threatened "federal prison" for attempting to smuggle contraband into the US. So be very careful of those bastards. There are a lot of pharmacies at the entry of the border. DO NOT take your car inside for safety reasons. If you run into any trouble call these numbers:
(202) 647 5225 -US Crisis Management
011526646227400- Tijuana US Consulate
Please be careful and don't talk back to Tijuana Police they are thieves in disguise. Normally the pharmacies on Revolution are the cheapest ones. Rosarito and more south are more expensive."
baluscher replied: "Yes you can buy them in Mexico and confiscation is not likely.
But why go to Mexico. You can get Amoxicillin at Costco for about $5 for 30 tables. Of course, you will need a prescription, but if you go to a doctor you can get that as part of the visit.

Prescriptions from Canada or Mexico online? Is there a legitimate place where you can buy prescription drugs online from Canada or Mexico and have them shipped to the US? I have been to Mexico and bought a couple prescriptions there and brought them back to the US with no problems, and they were what I thought they were. I got amoxicillin and bactrim. Im not looking for pain killers, muscle relaxers or anything like that, Im just trying to get my prescription refilled without having to pay a whole lot of money.
Put it this way, the bactrim, costs $60 and lasts only 3 days. Its used to fight infections caused from allergic reactions. Anyways if anyone knows of a legitimate place and have had experience with it, please let me know.
dolphinroc replied: "Your just like me, I get my Cipro from Mexico. I've done it twice The web site is Mexicomeds or MedicineMexico. They actually have a USA address, everything is processed "here" but does come from Mexico and you will have to go the P.O. to sign for it. My med. was exactly right. The site gives you a list and you will be able to compare it to what you pay now. I hope I can find your question again, i'm going to my e-mail to look in folders for the correct address because it took me a long time to find this place just searching Mexico Meds. Hope I find you again - you can get me at"

For those of you that have never been to a foreign country and are opposed...........? to much of the heath care reform options being proposed.
Many of the foreign countries that have a universal health care in place do not complain about what they have. Most of what we hear is propaganda by the opposing sectors. Why? Because they have financial interests in those Insurance companies, the manufacturers of medical supplies, and the pharmaceutical companies.
For example, when we go to Mexico to visit friends and family, I can buy Amoxicillin for $7 without a script. I also can buy many of the asthma inhalers for $10 without a script. This also goes for frequently prescribed blood pressure and heart medications. If I go see a doctor it costs approximately $30 per visit and this is NOT a copay. Specialists can run about $50. Dentists run about $20. To have a tooth filled (this includes local anesthetic, drill, fill, and clean) is about $150. And yes, they are very clean offices and sterilized. Here, it would cost me WITH insurance a copay of $400! Do you see anything wrong here? If I have to go to a doctor and get a script for a med, I can get top grade med from Phizer for about $20 to $50, here I would have to pay WITH insurance $10- if generic - $80 non generic, BUT I still had to pay my copay to the doctor and would probably be billed for anything insurance wouldn't cover. That same med without insurance runs $120.
Do you see the problem here? Are we stupid enough to believe that the exact same meds (same company and name) I buy in Mexico for $25 are worth $120 dollars here? Have any of you that have had Amoxicillin prescribed for an infection seen or asked what it would cost (brand name) for it WITHOUT insurance? About $25.00 and you have to see a doctor before getting it. The same exact oxygen tube my mother buys for her oxygen tank (75 ft) supplied by insurance runs about $74. For one! I went to a manufacturer to ask how much to buy the exact same tubes and connectors in gross (12 in a case) and he told me $27! And the cost her insurance doesn't cover is about $12 she has to pay every two weeks for new tubing.
Do we have to resort to buying our medical supplies from the suppliers direct and prescriptions from across the borders (Canada too)? Do any of you know another way to stop the glutony of the Insurance industry? Can you afford a better coverage plan that doesn't cost more out of pocket? Why can they sell their meds and supplies in foreign countries so much cheaper yet we have to pay the higher end costs?
I want someone to explain why we have let this go on for so long? Mexico doesn't have a "universal health care" system in place but yet can sell their meds and supplies cheaper. This is why I used my knowledge of their health care system rather than a universal one. They are supplied by the exact same companies we are but yet we pay 3 to 5x's as much as they or any other country does. Why?
Thank you for your time.
Sorry, everyone, but thepeople dieing waiting for care in other countries will not phase me. That happens daily in the US as well, as so does misdiagnosis, wrong scripts, and over looked patients waiting for care. Take a look at some of the metropolitan Hospitals, clinics, and over booked doctors offices now.
They call a doctors business a "practice" for a reason, because if it was an exact science they would be Gods. And for the record, for the person that said I may be too young, I'm 45 yrs young and am well traveled. Also, I work in the insurance industry.
O'ryan - I didn't lie! Just got two bottles in January of this year for $7 bucks. Granted it was in powdered form rather than pill. But I also bought penicillan for $8 in pill form.
And for those that think that is all the health care available to them is universal, you are wrong. There are insurance companies in many of those countries that actually are used to supplement their current national healthcare. The supplement can be used to fly or travel to various cities or countries to get specialized health care or a private physician or surgeon. Usually those of the upper middle class to above are the ones that can afford it. There are smaller policies offered to cover privatized elderly care as well which is relatively cheap.
Lloyds of London is one of the companies that owns a subsidiary for health care that is international.
And also, The English pound AND the Euro is still worth more than our US dollar, so money or economics is not the factor of universal health care.
Chibi - thulhu replied: "always interesting what people can justify and block out eh?"
Fooled U replied: "Maybe it's because Mexico doesn't have a whole lot of lawyers."
tylertxanreborn replied: "Dear, I've been to England, Germany, Italy, switzerland, Ireland,. Canada, Mexico--turns out the best health care system in the world is the us health care system. I have friends in the UK and Canada that have to fly to the states to get anything signficant taken care off. There are horror stories if you talk to English, Italian, candadian, and swiss citizens about dealing with state run health care--so I do know what I'm talking about. I;m guessing you are too young to know anything about anything. As for me I don't want a socialist amerika,."
Patriotgal replied: "Is this a question or a rant?"
MikeGolf replied: "The fact of the matter is that countries like Mexico and Canada extort pharmicutical companies into selling medications at subsidized prices.
They set the price that the companies can charge and then threaten to ignore the patents and allow generics to be produced if the companies do not meet their demands.
As a result people in the US have to pay all of the research and development costs for the medications. Personally I think that we need to pass a law forbidding this practice and be willing to fight a 'trade war' if necessary to protect the American consumer."
Steve replied: "There are several reasons why prices for drugs are different in various countries:
1) Drug companies like any supplier of a product have to price their products for the market in which they're selling. They set the price to what will provide them with the most revenue based upon what people in that market are willing to pay.
2) Some countries offer the drug companies exclusive or extended rights to be the only company that can sell the drug in that country. This means that there will be longer periods without competition from generic drug manufacturers. In return, the drug companies agree to sell the drugs at lower prices.
3) Some countries negotiate with the drug companies to buy the drugs in bulk, and as a result they get a bulk discount."
goodluckwithhat replied: "How about those of us who HAVE been to foreign countries and have FRIENDS who live their, under nationalized health care and DO complain about their systems and have suffered losses because of it?
You people think that you are so much more educated and traveled and, therefore, know so much more than those of us who oppose nationalized healthcare. It is so kind of you to educate us. Pahleeze!
I've been to the UK several times, to France, to Italy and to Mexico, which DOES have a national healthcare system that one of my oldest friends won't use because the wait is long, the doctors are their because they can't make it out on their own and often misdiagnose and prescribe the wrong medication. Therefore, he'd rather pay for it himself than go to a clinic.
Another friend I've had from my teenage years lives in Glasgow, Scotland. Her father was never sick a day in his life and then developed a foot infection. He went to the clinic and was put on a waiting list for the hospital for 4 months. When he finally got there, they told him they'd have to take the foot to save the leg. The family's concerns that he wasn't acting quite right were ignored and the following day the staff found him dead in a hallway. They couldn't even use his organs because they didn't know how long he'd been dead. My friend has written several letters to find out what went wrong and still hasn't gotten an explanation. You think she isn't complaining? You think she's the only one this has happened to?
My sil is from Canada. Her mother still lives there and has to see the doctor once a month. She loses a day's pay waiting in the waiting room on average 6 hours.
My sil was lucky enough to develop leukemia while she was living in the States. She knows that she would have been placed on a waiting list for the hospital in Canada rather than admitted immediately and put on high doses of chemo. Canada would have weighed the costs of the treatment, the tests, the infections and returning to the hospital. She wouldn't be planning a renewal of her marriage ceremony now if she'd been in Canada when all this happened. She'd be planning her funeral if she hadn't already died.
So save the lesson, honey. I've traveled and I know people all with nationalized healthcare and all who'd rather have something else.
Thanks for your time."
Kang....or Kodos? replied: ""turns out the best health care system in the world is the us health care system."
That's the best laugh I've had in a long time! Someone's living in a state of delusion. The majority of Americans voted for Obama, knowing full well that he intended to change the US health care system. The majority of Americans want health care change because they've seen the problems. I'm sorry but the democracy you love so much is majority-rule. I understand it's frustrating when you don't get your way, but it's going to happen. You lose."
Crow replied: "WELL SAID.....In Britain our national health service has been working fine for over 60 years despite! greedy stinking parasite MPs attempts to sabotage it and sell it off to the private sector for their own personal gain....... Sounds like you have the same low life trash over there as our parliament is infested with.....USA you are being legally robbed and the thieves are now starting to squeal like pigs. Greedy shareholders are going into spasm like salted leeches.....Ignore it all...GO with it. once your there you wont want to look back."
grantadvocacy replied: "have you considered they don't complain because that universal health care is all they have and no other option so that would be they never had BETTER care. the US has the best health care and you cannot argue that. and the poor in the US has "universal" health care called medicaid which is equivalent to the universal quality that is in europe and asia. is it the worse, no, however not as good as quality care in the US that o-bama receives!"
O'Ryan replied: "I just spent some time in Mexico. I enjoyed how you could buy Amoxocilian for $15 a bottle (fact--you lied) and other prescription drugs for allot cheaper and doctor visits are dirt cheap. What you aren't taking into consideration is the fact that our country is infested with people who will sue you at the drop of a dime. The reason that prescriptions cost so much, that visits cost so much and surgeries is that there are lawyers looking for people to sue those who have gotten sick or injured due to anything that is related to medical care--even taking pills. The companies need to have money just to cover their tails in the event of a law suit and they have to have allot of insurance.
I believe that you are looking for TORT REFORM and not UHC or any alternative. It is pretty simple."
